Why ADFA SHOCK?

There are 3 delays that account for the greatest number of deaths of patients in health care as in...

  • Delay to seek care

Many patients delay to respond and when they do its is late eg cancer is usually discovered at a late stage.

  • Delay to reach care facility

Due to the poor infrastructure (roads, transport, no ambulance), the patient could fail to arrive to the hospital in time. There are many DOA cases (Dead on Arrival)

  • Delay to receive care

30% of Emergency Room patients die at the Casualty Ward before they receive care. The golden hour is important for trauma patients to get much needed specialist care eg surgery within that window or else chances of survival plummet.
